Hughes & Kettner Cream Machine, Amptown 15th Anniversary Special
Low-power valve amplifier head by Hughes & Kettner, made for home and studio recording in the late 1980s. Two controls only, Gain and Master, a jack input and a power switch. The lid carries the circuit schematic screen-printed on it, with the diagram of how to connect it to a mixing desk, a cabinet or a tape machine, a signature of these units. This is the commemorative edition for the 15th anniversary of Amptown, the German distributor, with the logo on the front panel. It powers up and plays: a valve tone at low output, ideal for direct recording and for amplifying a guitar on set without disturbing the sound recordist. As a prop it is the 1980s and 1990s home-studio unit on a desk or in a rack.
